One Song, One Take, One Cab

What’s the most curious experience you’ve encountered in the back of a black cab?

Maybe you happened to have a snazzy pair of Ray Ban’s and an acoustic guitar about your person and decided to serenade the driver with your mesmerising talent? In which case, you must be one of the numerous artists that have taken part in Black Cab Sessions.

We only came across BCS pretty recently, granted, a bit late in the game. You won’t even notice the hours pass you by as you spend hours trawling through the array of artists on there - it’s pretty addictive. Just So Films and Hidden Fruit Promotions deserve quite the pat on the back (or would the correct phrase be ‘bang on the bongo’s’?) since they bore the idea in 2007. Over the past four-and-a-bit years, they’ve managed to pull the legs of around 100 really cool artists (and cab drivers); from Bon Iver to Seasick Steve, to Cloud Control and Badly Drawn Boy. Even Brian Wilson gave it a go.

Friends of us Swansters saw the sessions spread to the festival scene in the summer of 2011’s Secret Garden Party, Field Day and Big Chill. It seems the US of A wanted a piece of the Black Cab action too since they launched their own USA Sessions, with the likes of Little Boots, School of Seven Bells, Holly Miranda and Shearwater offering a helping hand.

Although the majority of artists have generally fallen under the indie/folk bracket, their recent Twitter feeds call upon the more obscure snippets of talent to take part. We’re currently listening to Llianne de Havas, who was also nominated for BBC’s Sound of 2012.

Now please excuse us if you may, we’re off to think about our own suggestions. If BCS haven’t featured the artist(s) you’re currently into, by all means, make it known @blackcabsession.
